Malak Tamimi is recognised as YWCA’s Y25 – 25 young women under 25
Earlier this month, our very own Malak Tamimi (Year 11) was honoured recognised as one of YWCA’s Y25 – 25 young women under 25 who are creating change in Aotearoa. The Y25 is a prestigious and highly selective programme that recognises young wāhine who are leading with passion, purpose, and heart in their communities.
Malak is involved in several youth-led organisations, working to ensure that minority voices are heard, valued, and well represented. As the youngest in this year’s Y25 cohort, she spent a powerful weekend connecting with poets, activists, and multidisciplinary change makers from across the motu. Through storytelling, workshops, and shared experiences, the launch event and weekend wānanga in Auckland became a space of deep reflection, vulnerability, and collective empowerment.
“I was surrounded by women who carry so many worlds within them,” says Malak. “We spoke about our ‘why’—the dreams that keep us going, the pain that shapes us, and the love we hold for our people. I left feeling full-hearted, inspired, and ready to carry my mahi forward. “
Ka rawe, Malak! We’re so proud of you and can’t wait to see what you do next.
