Tournament of Minds
This is the first time Queen’s High School has entered this international competition and we were delighted with the result. The tournament requires teams of six or seven Year 9 and 10 students to choose one of four challenges, from the areas of Science and Maths, Social Sciences, Arts and Drama or Language and Literature. Billie Allan, Chloe Gray, Melanie van Heezik, Annalise MacDonell, Tallulah Costa and Lydia Butler were selected to represent the school at this tournament.
Our team chose the Language and Literature challenge and had exactly six weeks to invent a new language feature, write a script and present a ten minute presentation to a panel of judges in Christchurch, on Saturday August 31st. Their presentation was superb – slick, humorous and very cleverly written.
While they were there, they also had to do a spontaneous challenge, showing team -work processes, and creative and critical thinking. The team scored very highly in both their challenges, competing against a large number of other schools and won the Secondary School's division of the South Island competition.
Their win meant the team qualified for the national finals in Wellington. Unfortunately other commitments have meant we can't make this but we are hugely proud of what these girls have achieved.
